Checking A Temperature Without Waking Them

When you think your baby is too warm, you want to know quickly — and without disturbing them. This non-contact infrared thermometer reads a temperature from a few centimetres away in about a second, so you can check on a sleeping child and step back out of the room.

It is small enough to keep in the changing bag or on the bedside table, and simple enough to use one-handed at three in the morning.

Why Parents Choose It

  • One Press, One Second — an infrared sensor reads the forehead without contact, so there is no waiting and no fidgeting.
  • Nothing Touches Their Skin — no probe covers to buy and nothing to wipe down between uses, which matters when more than one child is unwell.
  • A Clear Warning When It Matters — a built-in alert flags readings outside the normal range so you are not squinting at numbers half-asleep.
  • Thirty-Two Stored Readings — track how a temperature moves through the night, and give your GP or health visitor real figures rather than a guess.
  • Useful Beyond Fever — a surface mode checks bottle milk, bath water or the nursery itself.
  • Backlit Display — readable in a dark room without turning the big light on.

Using It Well

Hold the sensor 1–5cm from the centre of the forehead, on clean dry skin, and keep clear of hair or a damp fringe — both will pull the reading down. Let the thermometer sit in the room for a few minutes before the first reading if it has come in from the cold. Please remember that a thermometer supports your judgement rather than replacing it: if you are worried about your child, or a reading seems high, contact your GP, health visitor or call 111.

Common questions

Between 1cm and 5cm from the centre of the forehead. Closer or further than that and the reading becomes less reliable. Aim for clean, dry skin and move any hair or fringe out of the way first.

It is specified at ±0.2°C across a 32°C to 43°C range. Like any home thermometer, it is there to inform your judgement rather than replace it. If you are worried about your child, contact your GP, health visitor or call 111 regardless of what the display says.

Usually something on the skin or in the room. Sweat, a damp fringe, a draught, or the thermometer itself having just come in from a cold hallway will all shift a reading. Let the unit sit in the room for a few minutes, wipe the forehead dry, and take a second measurement.

Yes — that is the main reason to choose a non-contact thermometer. Nothing touches your child, so you can check a temperature without waking them.

Checking objects rather than people: bottle milk, bath water, or the temperature of the nursery. Do not use surface mode to take a body temperature — switch to forehead mode for that.

No. It takes 2 × AAA batteries, which are not included.

Wipe the body with a slightly damp cloth and dry it. Do not immerse it in water and take care not to scratch or press on the sensor lens, as a marked lens will affect readings.

Yes. The 32°C to 43°C range covers adult body temperature, so it works for the whole household.

Current UK guidance generally treats 38°C or above as a high temperature. Age matters a great deal though — a raised temperature in a baby under three months is treated far more urgently than the same reading in an older child. Please speak to your GP rather than relying on a number alone.
